Need help identifying the year of a 75hp mcculloch

Just picked up a 75 hp McCulloch and need help identifying the year. I looked around the motor and found 1277 on the transom mount tag, but I don’t know what it means.

Thanks everyone.  As you can see the data plate is either a replacement part or just rubbed bare.  We have not been able to find any other id markings.  Cowling is mcCulluch but that only gives me a range of years for a manual.  Is there a significant difference in the model year configurations?  Came with the two lever controls vs the one lever so assume it is an earlier model.  Key word here is “assume”.

If you are looking for a manual to cover details of general maintenence….I would think that the exact year would not matter much.

What make/model carburetor is installed on it?  I have reference material that lists application information for the various Tillotson carbs.  That might give you a clue as to year.

Also….the exact design of the cowling can sometimes be traced back through youtube videos or other image banks…..sometimes giving a clue to year….assuming that the person who made the video/image is ID’ing it correctly.

Laings outboards in New York and Discount marine parts in Bark River Michigan are both manned by people who know the McCulloch motors well and have some parts…..

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
