Is there a petronix module for the KG4 or MK20h?
I got one done and I’m moving on to the KG4 race engine. Tribute to a fellow racer who was US1 in the late 70’s. I managed to score his spare powerhead and have a very nice tower and lower to match it with. I need ignition pieces. Coils, points, condenser or an electronic equivalent.

If you have the Phelon ignition this is the coil substitution John is suggestion. Video Link- https://youtu.be/OxPHe8EPe1Q?si=I7iJZrICe4jpurW- There are inexpensive, Chinese, OMC style coils out there. CID coils are suppose to be made in the USA. They cost quite a bit more and are what I used in this video. Here is a link to a source on eBay if you want to consider using them.- https://www.ebay.com/itm/375755318208 You may be able to find them cheaper if you do some shopping around. Points often can be re-used. Outboard motors usually don’t usually have the running hours that a car with a point ignition would have. There is no reliable ignition module known (to me anyway) for outboard motors at this time.
A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

September 15, 2026 at 12:37 pm #328488A number of years ago, a guy from eastern Pa. designed an ignition for the 20h from an OMC ignition and flywheel.
He brought it to one of our races and raced under APBA probation rules. His goal was to have it approved by the Modified Racing Commission (MORC).
I remember seeing the cut down flywheel and brackets for the OMC coils.
This is from the APBA Mod Tech Manual for AMOD concerning the 20h:
The Phelon ignition can be replaced with the OMC CD2 system utilizing the OKMC cast steel
flywheel PN 584584 / CN 513972 prepared in the same manner as the Sidewinder / Hot Rod
OMC flywheel 584222. The flywheel must meet the existing rule weight. No modification of
the crankcase or block is allowed. The flywheel must be machined by an approved modified
source.Be forewarned. If it is only available through the APBA, you may need a valid ABPA racing membership to purchase.
This was the case when the Mercury 15 A engine was introduced.
Sincerely,
Doug
