      Hello,

I want to replace a stuck 15hp FD-10 powerhead with a good 18hp FD-11 powerhead on the FD-10 driveshaft casing. Can I use the FD-10 magneto, flywheel and carburetor on the FD-11 powerhead?

      Thanks!

so question… what is stuck on your FD10 ..gear case, powerhead innards  stuck rings only , rewind starter …etc…

The powerhead. Tried to unstuck a number of times, no luck.

My Johnson common parts book says the FD-10 and FD-11 share the same part number on the flywheel but the magneto plate and carburetor have different part numbers between the 2 motors.   Not sure if that really means those parts are actually different from motor to the other or just a revised part number.   I can’t imagine the magneto plate would really be different between the two, especially since they share a common flywheel.

took me a whole  week to free up a $50  9.5hp  9622a  by removng the cyl head, soaking the rings and  alternately wacking the cyl tops with a round 1 incnch  wood peg.   Suddenly movement began with the FW  moving a few degrees  progressing to a full release. I can understand the different carb, but the different mag plate is intriguing.  I’m wondering if the original 15hp mag plate number supercedes to the 18hp mag plate.

Check if the base gasket matches to start.

I would do more research for you, but don’t have access to the 15hp parts book.  The powerhead/base gaskets are the same, so the powerhead will fit just fine, it is the different mag plate numbers that intrigue me.

Different mag plates would more than likely be attributed to where the throttle cam pickup is attached to the underside and such…By keeping the FD11 parts together, you mitigate most of the issues I would think.

My guess would be bolt the whole later powerhead on, mag and all, so long as the recoil and cowl don’t interfere.. just my .02
