Have a 1939 Envinrude Elto Cub.  Has some rust inside the gas tank.  Gas tank is in ok shape.

Is Evaporust a good way to remove rust inside the gas tank?  I plan to use the motor(not a wall hanger).

Evaporust will work on the rust and is safe for paint, so its a good choice to use, especially on a small tank like that one. Hope this helps.

Evaporust works pretty good, but I tend to use a product for etching cement
and / or de-rusting metal as it’s a lot cheaper.

I get it at Home Depot.

Did you get the little Cub running last Thursday?

Did not get the cub running on thursday.  Steve & Ted worked on the poppit valve and got it running strong on friday.  Got it home and it started, but then quit.  Saw rust sediment in the fuel screen so decided its best to clean the gas tank.

I have successfully used double strength vinegar a few times to clean up fairly bad steel tanks. It is cheap and effective, just fill the tank and check every day or so. A short piece of chain can be added and shaken around in the tank to dislodge ant gnarly bits of rust.?

I like using Evapo-Rust to deal with rusty areas because it isn’t acidic and it doesn’t eat away at the good metal.

Cub tanks are really thin. If you have rust some of the metal is already gone. An acid is effective in removing the rust but it removes good metal as well. Evaporust only removes the rust and a pint can should fill your tank. Cheap compared to finding another tank. As you have had gas in the tank you need to remove the oil left in it first. Evaporust is water base and the oil can keep it from getting to the rust.
