    Good evening folks.

    I removed the magneto today.
While cleaning and examining it, I observed a thin piece of metal shaving drop out.
It came from the center, where the brass ring middle is.

    Pictures included.

I have scoured the exploded diagrams and I’m wondering if it’s remnants of maybe part 2?

I’d love help identifying what it was so I can replace it.

Update just in case others run into this. Some folks from the AOMCI Facebook indicate my magneto plate is worn, and it’s possibly some aluminum build up from scraping.

I have a NOS plate on the way in the mail.
So I had a look today again, and I noticed the bosses where the locator ring would presumably sit appear to have a section machined from them. I’ve enclosed pics, because I’m not sure if it is supposed to be machined like this, or perhaps this is where it may have been scraping?

I looked at my NOS in photos and it’s too small to tell if they all have these “shelves”.

    Anyway. Here’s the pics.

There is nothing wrong with the coil bosses – they are typically machined that way.   The heels of the ignition coils should align with the bosses exactly as they appear in your pictures.  Here’s a pic from my ’56 30hp I did a few years ago – you’ll see the bosses are like yours.
