I would not replace the motor unless you have a need to operate where 2 stroke engines are no longer tolerated.

What’s the problem with synchronization of spark and throttle?  This is generally a pretty simple matter.  Some big twins have a more complicated linkage that could take a bit of effort to figure out, but I doubt yours has that additional complexity.  People here will know.
