If the item you are installing has a screen inside it, it is meant for gravity fed systems.  If it has a paper filter, it is meant more for pump systems as found on lawn tractors. The screened one will work with a pump but it’s not such a good idea to use a paper filter in a gravity system.

Years ago I thought I was smart and installed an inline automotive filter in the fuel line to my 55 horse Chrysler. It didn’t work very well as the filter clogged up killing the motor. The tanks were fairly clean so I think the element inside was so fine it wouldn’t let the oil in the mix pass through. Not sure.
