The cost of oil is minimal compared to the overall initial investment, operation and maintenance of a quality outboard. I ran XD-50 in my 1998 Evinrude that saw nothing but salt water use and it’s still running strong with a new owner (sold it to a neighbor). I really like the XD100 in my ETEC 150 even at $40/gallon. To me, this really is a case of "you get what you pay for".
