You may not ever use it, but on top of that it does work on 1992 & later cranks with the retainer/o-ring type crank. That crank setup has the shield that lips over the end of the crank to retain the o-ring. The piece you refer to will bend the retainer. In the shop we ended up making a cut off driveshaft that went into the spines. With a center in it the puller will pull the bearing the same way, but not touch the end of the crank. Just an FYI.
