The first Evinrude to have a fully synchronized twist grip speed control was the 1951 Big Twin. Not counting the electric start early 1930 motors which used a RPM controller in the starter/generator to adjust the timing. I always considered running at slow speeds by retarding the ignition wasteful on fuel . . . 😎
