Yes, that long brass shift rod connector is what came in the extension kits from OMC…Much better option than having to replace either the upper or lower shift rod. The water tube extension looks home made although OMC made water tube extensions that were more or less the same thing. I think there was a groove in the larger diameter flare of the tube for an oring though. Again, this is a whole lot simpler option than replacing the upper water tube on some models.
So, I am thinking this engine was a short/standard/15" model when it was new, and someone extended it afterwards…
