I have yet to pull the starter again. The fact that the starter doers turn the engine over, must indicate that the tooth count on flywheel and starter at the same. Seems hard to believe I have to shim the starter motor, but the loud noise it makes, has me thinking that once the starter motor engages the flywheel, there is a side load on the starter shaft. The Merc part number for this starter is: 50-806965A4 and the enclosed paper work clearly states, it will fit the in line 6 cylinder engine models. Does anyone out there know of a different part number? I am perplexed..
