    I just replaced mine last weekend. Other then a more "high pitched" sound from the smaller starter it seems normal. This was on a Mercruiser 898. Is it a grinding? or does it sound like the starter gear is dragging on the flywheel teeth? You may need to do a little shimming of the mounting points if that is the case.
