I have heard of people cutting down the center pole of 5/8" laminations to fit 7/16th coils. Never done it myself but would expect it to work if done carefully. But with 5/8" coils apparently available for around $40 it might not be worthwhile.

Wico made a very large variety of flywheel mags. Only a few seem common on outboards but bear in mind when buying on ebay, etc.
