Well.
It is not easy for me to o explain in English, but I hope the photos will help.
FIRST: I know it would not be a problem to find a FD spare PW … Very hard is to find a QD gearcase here in Italy… but my real target is to create something new…
I found no problem to fit the QD PW to the FD leg without the lower cover. The pattern is essentially the same, only for the QD front stud I need to use a bolt/nut assembly.
No problem also for gear lever and gas. Just I used the linkages from a 1957 QD.
So when "naked", the engine could work.
Also the drill pattern of dampers in the lower cover is the same, so potentially I can swap the covers.
The problem is that the FD’s dampers front mounting plate is wedged instead of plane as in the QD, and the QD lower do not fit correctly on the flange on the upper leg. In this way, the base of the carburetor tap the lower cover and the PW does not fit correctly.
I would like to use the QD mounting plate, but to do this I have to swap the front handles as well.
My question is whether anyone knows if it is possible or the dampers or pivot rod mounting points are too different.
