I did the same thing as Frank, using a spark tester on a 4 stroke Honda. Turned out it had a fuel leak on the pressure side of the fuel pump. Once I cranked it and built a little fuel pressure, oddly enough the location of the leak allowed fuel to squirt directly on the spark tester. A 3 ft. flame erupted, that I had to hit with the fire extinguisher. I then spent the next couple hours cleaning up the mess.
