IF you are guessing correctly and the flywheel has been severely overtorqued, the taper will be spread and the flywheel most likely is junk. However, possibly it has been run loose, which damages the tapers and keyways on both flywheel and crankshaft. I’ve never seen one loosen up after being properly torqued, as you experienced, so I dunno about that one.
If the coils are dragging on the flywheel magnets, it will rotate the mag plate and turn itself off if you turn loose. As will the other valid suggestions.
