Johnsons were green in ’52, so what you’re likely seeing is the red primer they used By the time Johnson went to Holiday Bronze in 1956, the powerheads were quite different. Sometimes, the primer might indicate a replacement powerhead, as they were the same powerbeads, regardless of whether it was for an Evinrude or Johnson. They left it up to dealers to paint them to match – which often didn’t get done.
