Yessir, the powerhead has to come off to do any work on the rewind. One thing that will save you a bunch of trouble is something Hotrod told me when I was working on mine. There is a hidden screw that holds the powerhead on after you have removed all the ones you can see. There is a plug in the bottom of the exhaust elbow. It is barely visible in the last picture. Remove that plug and there is another powerhead screw under there. Thankfully my better judgement won out on the side of patience when I worked on mine and I didn’t break something.
