Not being a purist, I have almost always clearcoated over vinyl decals with lacquer, enamel, and urethane clearcoats throughout the years … never had a problem, but I have never used Dixie’s decals either. To me, just adds another layer of protection from the elements. Maybe it’s overkill, maybe not, but I’ve done it many times and it works for me personally. Here’s the most recent cowling I did:
