I sometimes add non-hardening gasket sealer to those seals. The black stuff sold for automotive use that is gas and oil resistant works good. It’s messy and excess will squeeze out the seam when you assemble, requiring cleanup, but it insures a good seal. Do not use any silicone-based gasket sealer, as it can make things terrible to take apart next time.
