I’ve been using PowerTune/ Engine tuner to clean carb’s for a long, long time. I spray it through the carb, then follow up with a rinsing of aerosol carb cleaner. My personal preference is B12 ChemTool. Lastly, I use compressed air to check all passages. The Power Tune will clean the worst varnish and gum deposits quickly. It’s nasty stuff so wear gloves and have good ventilation! I have a friend of mine that’s a Mercury instructor…. he used to always say that marine mechanics life spans will be shorter because all of the chemicals and exaust fumes we work around. He may be right.
