retiredoz, I got on Marineengine.com, I can’t seem to find the page you are talking about, where the 1957 shift shaft is all by itself, and changes are different starting 1958. I thought all these gearcases were interchangeable from early 50’s – middle 60’s, along with shift shafts, driveshafts, couplers, etc, shows you what I know. That sure sounds like that has to be the culprit. Thanks for the help. Getting late, maybe have better luck tomorrow.
