The upper gearcase and skeg are bolted together, then they are bored for the bearings and stuff that goes inside. So in theory, mismatching them means the hole will be out of round because there are no two alike. Yeah, yeah, I know lots of guys have mis-matched them anyway, and gotten away with it. Just goes to show how those old OMC motors work no matter how badly you abuse them.

What irks me is the people that part out motors and sell the skeg separately on e-bay.
