Older two-strokes with friction or sleeve type bearings are generally quieter than needle/roller bearing equipped motors. It’s just the nature of the beasts. This is why I like smaller motors from the fifties as they are so quiet when they are in good condition. Worn pistons and cylinders in either type of motor will get your attention with the piston slap noise though.
