    If you have a DVM (digital volt meter) you can test the voltage out of the stator. Sounds like you have a dead charge coil? You have two on the stator (one for each bank of cylinders). Voltage should show around 180 at cranking speeds. You can try the one off your other engine or I can bring you a new one if you want?
