I use the cheapest oil I can find that is rated TC-W3. It is usually some kind of store brand oil. Since Walmart or any other store does not make oil you can be sure some brand name oil company makes it. After extensive research I found out that Pennzoil made the Walmart Supertec oil. Since they made store brand oil for Walmart, I suspect they are willing to make it for any retail store that wants it. Since the more they make the cheaper they can make all their oil, they would want to make it for as many retail stores as possible.

Since it would be cheaper to use the exact same formula they use for their own brand, since changes on the production line are costly, I suspect it is the very same stuff. Some would say that if there was an expensive additive in their name brand that was not desperately needed to meet the TC-W3 specifications, they might not use it and therefore the store brand would be different. My opinion is, that if there was an expensive additive that was not needed to meet all the oil specs. for TC-W3, they wouldn’t even put it in their name brand either.

The odds are that the store brands are EXACTLY the same as the name brand…so save your money. I have never had any problem with using the cheapest oil. Right now I am using a formula 1 brand (Canadian Tire store brand) that I bought for $1.69 a litre. Works great.
