Sometimes well meaning restorers will partially plug the water intake screen with paint The holes in the water by-pass cover should be toward the front. These holes allow water to be drawn in when in neutral and reverse. The cover is held on by two counter sunk screws so it can be removed to blow air through the screen after paint remover has ben put on it. If the welsh plug is blown out, the opening may be threaded for a small slotted pipe plug. . . . . . 😉
