You are correct. The early one had separate cylinder castings where the later were one casting for both cylinders.

The Mod / Ser# on the later DD is located on the flange on the left side (portside) where the motor gets bolted to the cradle in the boat.
( At least on the ones I have in my collection. )

I believe the Mod / Ser# on the earlier one is on the right side ( Starboard side ) on the front flange where the motor gets bolted to the cradle
in the boat. I do not have a earlier one in my collection to refference so I am going by memory of ones I have seen over the years.
There is always the posibility that maybe the front case was replaced at some point in it life and the Mod/Ser# was never transfered on to the
new case. Hopefully someone who has the earlier version will see this thread and be able to confirm.
