If you use JB Weld you should use their gas tank sealer. This tank sprung a leak this summer. Being away, I used it so I could still run the motor. I made the patch large enough to give it the best chance to work. I ran the motor on and off for about 6 weeks. It held up fine. If the tank is too thin to be welded I’ll be looking for a replacement. Just putting a thin line on your crack isn’t likely to be sufficient. If you don’t mind having a lump of it on the tank, it would be the easiest and least expensive option. A gas tank sealer wouldn’t be visible. PRO sells an 8 oz can that isn’t too expensive. The best repair would be soldering IMO.
A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
