    I have a 6 gallon external tank that had a split in the tank bottom from someone slamming in the gas nozzle.  A radiator repair person soldered over the crack and it has held up for years.  Soldering is good as temperature is low and no  ark or flame.  Most people do not like welding on a gas tank however empty.
