    apply some lubricant on the brass link but  things won’t come apart if the drive shaft splines are rusted  in the crankshaft .

    flip the engine over and driblle some lubricant down the drive shaft … let is soak  a bit and retry harder and firmly with rubber mallet wacks

    is this a new to you engine ???  when is the last time the LUwas dropped for the impeller change ??   Got the service manual (free download)
