    Based on that this is a 1954 Johnson CD-10 5.5 Hp model, if the coils are not cracked then they have been replaced somewhere along the way. If no cracks, and electrical tests are good, then they should be fine. Check for chafing on fine coil wires too. Are those Prufrex coils?
