Reply To: 1949 Mercury KF5 Super 5 Parts List?

The driveshaft seal Mercury Part Number is 26-21670 which crosses to 4990 commercial code
The seal pressed into water pump cartridge is 26-22058 which crosses to 4923 commercia number
The square O ring is Part Number 12-22776 for which I have no cross to commercial number. It may or may not be
a special or no longer current
I have some used parts and even a couple NOS water pump
cartridges.
Rule of thumb is direct drive
motors use grease and shift motrs use oil… with exceptions. I have been told
that some will use grease instead of oil if shaft seals
are worn out or if shaft is rusted or groove and even a new seal will soon
or water.
I have a KF3 gear case assembly job sitting on bench,
Need to press the $$$ needle bearing out of damaged case and press the into a KF5 case
(same except water intake slits) Changinng cases cases may mean shim swaping to adjust gear lash,
I have been sitting on this for some time. Last of old style powerhead mated to first
of the fulley jeweled lower
units. A $50 bargain that was
completely worn out.
