amps are a current measurement and done with the VOM hook-up in series on the suspect wires . Ssuggest you look up some utubes on how to use VOM on the AMP scale . Small meters can usually handle up to 10 amps so verify your meter’s amp capacity. respect polarity on meer with needles. vs auto ranging meters
