When dropping the gearcase, remember that the roll pin has to line up with a slot up inside the exhaust housing, unlike the 5.5’s .
Maybe your carb has been swapped out.
The caps I ordered online (at your recommendation) work in the barrel for 15 minutes at least, but have not been sea trialed.
Good score for $75.00. I resurrected a similar long shaft with cracked coils just recently. Had to burn the paint on all 8 bolts to get the gearcase and extension apart . $ 40.00 CDN . Runs great now.
