    A few more things to check.1-are exhaust manifolds clogged with carbon?The narrow passages on the early A were prone to this problem. 2-Can you feel side play trying to push flywheel side to side?That would indicate worn crank bearing not sealing.You can try upping the oil to gas ratio to 8:1 and see if that helps. 3- I assume crankcase gasket is in place and in good condition.
