John, good job, a creative solution found…. creativity is a hallmark of the guys in this hobby, I think that you will fit right in here. As for the seal, if the bronze bushings are all wagged out, a new seal won’t do much good. Now, you have to consider where you want to go with this motor, down the rabbit hole ? or follow Franks suggestion and button it up , get her running and enjoy.
