Frank, thanks again for the advice. I promise I 100% planned to follow it, but as I sat here this morning I came up with an idea I just had to try out. (See pics)

A (very) mini-press did the job!

So now, the question is the part number for the seal? I looked at my newly acquired parts book and came up with 551080. Seems like the only part it can be, but when I measure the wallowed-out brass bushing in the gearcase it measures right about .235 above the gearcase mating surface and the driveshaft column has just the same as available space until you run into another bushing up in the hole. I found this part number online, and it appears it MAY be a lipped seal, but I’m not sure. Anyone have any experience with this?

Any yes, if this becomes too much of a hassle I will definitely follow Frank’s advice and call it a day (on this part of my fun with this motor). I guess I don’t have the give up gene in me…

    Thanks all –
