I seriously doubt the drive shaft is a problem on this kind of motor.  The “splines” are just a square end on the drive shaft and crank.

If I may ask, why are you trying to get in there anyway?  I suppose to replace the drive shaft grease seal.  My advice is to forget it and let ‘er leak.  Those things had a poor excuse for seals and leakage was expected and accepted.  Regular maintenance included draining off the water that got into the gearcase and re-filling with grease.
