Really? I know there are differences between the 28/33 housings and the 40hp housing due the the complicated water pump on the 40hp. But, I would think that the 28/33 gearcases would be interchangeable, along with the later model 40hp gearcases that used the 33hp midsection.
I’m “guessing” that the 30-35hp gearcase assemblies from the 50s would fit as well.
Keep in mind that I have said “gearcase assemblies”.. The complete units will bolt up, but there may be some internal differences. I will have to look in the parts books to see just what you are referring to….
