Once again, please don’t install another gearcase and pull that powerhead off, you may just be confusing the issue and introducing other problems. You can simply pull the driveshaft out of a spare gearcase and stick it up inside the powerhead to check from messed up crank splines.
If you decide to run the engine again, please make a video of the engine misbehaving, might be easier for us to get an idea of what is going on here. Once again, are you sure you don’t have a short shaft engine on a long shaft boat? Are you sure those props you are trying are OK? Perhaps you have a couple of props with worn rubber hubs. I know, an unlikely coincidence, but worth rechecking. I just don’t want you to go through all the trouble of changing the powerhead only to have the same issues reoccur. D
