It turned out to be the shift shaft horizontal adjustment. Pulled the boat out of the water, looked at the shifter and it wasn’t going into the forward indent properly (although forward was never a problem). Loosened the bolt and it popped properly into forward . Well I guess the rest of the geometry fell into place, and now reverse is fine. Should have looked there first, but needed the forum to jog my memory. Thanks again everyone.
Now on to my next problem. Boiling hot water coming out the discharge. I’ll start a new post for that one.
