These filters get stuck and break often when the brass fitting is removed. They are made from sintered copper and are soldered on at the factory. I like Mumbles idea of putting them back together with epoxy. Another option is to lap the bottom of the broken filter to get a good smooth surface and epoxy the shortened filter back onto the brass fitting. While the filter is out, that’s the time to give it a good cleaning. A good soak in a jar with acetone works well.
