Either a strong vinegar solution or best option is one of the marine descaler products available from a number of suppliers – StarBrite, West Marine, Rydlyme, Bright Bay Hammerhead, etc.    All of the descaler products are an acid base so be sure to flush the passages thoroughly with lots of water after the treatment.   Since I run my ETEC 150 in saltwater year round, I flush it after every use with Salt Away.   I also flush it once a year with the Hammerhead descaler – it’s the least acidic yet still does a good job of cleaning the water passages.   Even with the Salt Away after every use, I still get quite a bit of junk out of the motor with the once a year Hammerhead treatment.
