    Hi frankr, thanks for the response.  When I look at the parts list it does indicate a quantity of 2 of these seals for the lower position.  I had not noticed this before.  It looks like both have the seal aimed down.  That solved the mystery.  Thank you. Now I just have to decide whether to upgrade to the carbon seal.
