Check the coil under the flywheel. It is almost certainly cracked if it is original, and will give intermittent spark.

Unfortunately those little motors often suffer from low compression because they are run hard due to their small size trying to push a couple large guys and their fishing gear in a heavy boat . They will not idle down, or stay running if that is the case. As for value, it depends on condition, and where you are located in the country .
