OK, well that seal should not have just “slipped out of there”, trying to remove these things is usually a big battle. Do you have the gearcase apart, or did you remove the seal with the gearcase assembled? The correct OEM part number for the prop shaft seal is: 313282 and it should take some effort to drive it in place. Be very careful, those prop shaft bushing/carriers are very delicate and break easily.
That being said, the design of these seals/bushing has changed over the years, so be sure you actually have a 1970 6hp. Does it look like the original gearcase? Perhaps someone had it apart before and has mixed/matched parts in there.
