Just wanted to close this thread out as a success story. I was able to replace the broken recoil spring with Sierra part 18-6501 and it seems to work fine. Here is a video of it running at its first AOMCI meet. Top speed was 5mph on a heavily loaded 14′ v-hull boat with two people.
