Re: “other motors”.  If a guy is mean enough, he can bend the shifter lock bar which may cause the improper condition that you think is normal in your other motors.  How?  by forcing a shift to neutral on a non-running motor in forward gear.  Gotta back the throttle off before it will shift out of forward without forcing it.
